Porto Venere
Porto Venere, declared World Heritage by UNESCO for the mix of natural beauty and places of historical interest, is a small gem on the end facing the Gulf of Spezia.
Together with its islands - over all the Palmaria island - is the imaginary boundary of the Gulf of Poets: one of the loveliest spots in Portovenere, in fact, is the cave Byron (grotta Byron), dedicated to the great English poet of the nineteenth century.
A little further up is set the old church of San Pietro (St. Peter), beautiful and ruler of the sea set below, mentioned in the charming poem dedicated to Portovenere by the poet Eugenio Montale; St. Peter, often present in advertising in the national interest, has been used in a recent spot "Audi" and on advertisings of the 2000s.
